Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Oct. 8
By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:
Turkmenavtoyollary (Turkmen Highways) State Concern completed the development of a project of a road bridge across the Garabogazgol Bay, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported Oct. 4.
The construction of a bridge with the length of 354 meters, width of 17 meters and height of seven meters above the surface of the bay will provide a four-lane traffic in the direction of the Kazakh border, the report said.
The new bridge will be built on the site of the old one, which cannot cope with the increased traffic.
The spans of the new bridge will be made of metal structures with a length of 110 and 64 meters, as well as reinforced concrete beams, which should provide a high load capacity and stability of the structure.
The bridge will be equipped with two-meter-wide pedestrian zones, with artificial lighting and fencing.
"The new bridge is part of the logistics system being built in the west of Turkmenistan," the report said. "The highway across the bridge will become continuation of the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi multimodal highway and connect Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, and this will provide an opportunity to increase the transport flow and the volume of trade turnover between the two countries."
The necessity to build a new bridge is also related to the need to transport products of a urea plant recently built in Garabogaz city in Turkmenistan.
