Kazakhstan's Kostanay region exports almost 1.6 million tons of wheat

Since the beginning of the year, wheat from Kazakhstan’s Kostanay region was shipped to 22 countries in the amount of almost 1.6 million tons, the regional agriculture department told Kazinform.

"As much as 1.594 million tons of wheat has been shipped for export. The largest amount of wheat was sent to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Italy, Turkey and China. These are the main countries where Kostanay’s wheat is shipped," the message said.

This year's harvesting campaign in the region ended just a few days ago. Kostanay farmers harvested 5.2 million tons of grain with an average yield of 12.8 centners per hectare. As much as 89 percent of the grain area in the Kostanay region was sown with certified seeds of higher fertility, 93 percent of which are seeds of class 1 and 2.

More than 9,600 combines, including 3,000 of high performance, and 23,000 tractors took part in harvesting this year, as well as 3,000 swathers, about 8,000 trucks, 19,000 tractor trailers and other machinery.
