This year an overproduction of tomatoes was observed in Azerbaijan, facilitated by favorable climatic conditions, Chairman of the Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association Bashir Guliyev told Trend.
Guliyev noted that moderate climatic conditions in August-September 2018 had a positive impact on the production of greenhouse tomatoes.
"In this regard, the tomato production in October 2018 was five times more than the expected amount. The same thing happened in Russia, which is the main export market for Azerbaijani fruits and vegetables. The huge overproduction of tomatoes has contributed to a twofold decrease in prices," Guliyev said.
The chairman also mentioned that 90 percent of tomatoes produced in Azerbaijan are exported to Russia.
