Uzbekistan publishes data on fishing for 1Q2019

In the first quarter of 2019, 2,336 tons of fish were caught in Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, which is 18.1 percent of the total indicator in the country, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The fish farmers of the Jizzakh region are in the second place with 1,805 tons (14 percent), followed by Khorezm region with 1,550 tons (12 percent).

In January-March 2019, all categories of farms of Uzbekistan caught 12,860 tons of fish, which is 1.5 percent more compared to January-March 2018.

As the analysis of the caught fish indicators by the categories of farms revealed, 61.5 percent of the total volume falls to the share of organizations engaged in agricultural activities. The analysis shows that there is a shortage in supplies of this dietary product compared to the forecast.

In November 2018, the head of Uzbekistan signed a decree on additional measures for the further development of the fish industry.

The document highlights the desired results in terms of growing and catching fish, building fishery facilities and outbuildings, providing producers with mixed feed and mineral fertilizers, in particular ammophos, creating reproductive pools, growing fry, and processing and storing fish products.

By the end of 2019, fish production in the country is expected to reach about 201,500 tons, according to forecasts.

Ipoteka-bank was appointed as responsible agency for the development of fish farming. The state’s share in the authorized capital of the bank was increased by $50 million allocated from the Fund for Reconstruction and Development for these purposes.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance was instructed to make annual transfers in equivalent of $15 million to the State Fund for the Support of Business Development under the Cabinet of Ministers in 2019-2020. These funds will also be used to finance fish projects.
