President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed relevant departments specializing in the fuel and energy sphere to step up work on drilling and overhauling hydrocarbon wells, including by attracting investments from specialized foreign companies, Trend reports referring to Turkmengas State Concern.
Turkmenistan is implementing a program for the development of the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan for the period up to 2030.
This issue was discussed at the final meeting of the government. The head of state gave tasks to further increase the production of liquefied gas and main types of petroleum products and strengthen the raw material base of the industry through the search and exploration of new hydrocarbon fields.
Special attention should be paid to the diversification of energy supplies to global markets, including the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline construction project (TAPI), the report said.
Turkmenistan is one of the key suppliers of natural gas in the Caspian region, selling to China and Russia. Turkmengas works on developing deposits, on the production, processing and transportation of gas and liquefied gas, and the sale of gas and gas products for export and domestically.
It was earlier reported that geological exploration was resumed in Turkmenistan at producing fields, aimed at exploring deep (up to seven kilometers) hydrocarbon deposits.
Promising oil and gas fields are being developed on the right bank of the Amu Darya river in the Central Karakum desert, in the Turkmen sector and in the coastal zone of the Caspian Sea.
In general, about 200 fields have been discovered in the territory of Turkmenistan, hundreds of prospective oil and gas structures have been prepared for deep drilling. The study of the oil and gas potential of the pre-Jurassic deposits of the central and northern regions of the country begins. The search and exploration of deep-lying resources in South-West Turkmenistan is underway.
