Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan plan to boost co-op in agriculture

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan plan to sign a roadmap on cooperation in the agricultural sector in mid-August, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khojaev discussed this topic during the negotiations with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Gulmira Isayeva.

"The ministers of agriculture of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, Jamshid Khojaev and Saparkhan Omarov, will sign the roadmap on August 19-20, aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector," the Ministry of Agriculture reported.

The sides also discussed fields of cooperation such as growing lentils and soybeans in the Tashkent region and the Fergana Valley based on a study of Kazakhstan’s experience, conducting research on growing wheat and barley varieties appropriate to the conditions of Uzbekistan, digitizing agriculture and sharing experience in this direction.

Prior to this, on June 22, 2019, during the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of UN) conference in Rome, the parties discussed issues relating to the agro-industry and the export of goods.

During the current meeting, the parties agreed to prepare several projects within the framework of the FAO regional conference to be held in Uzbekistan in 2020.
