By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

A number of promising new investment projects in the chemical industry are planned for implementation in Turkmenistan in the near future, Trend reports citing the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

These include the construction of plants for the production of iodine, bromine and their derivatives; a new production of concentrated phosphate fertilizers as part of a chemical plant in the city of Turkmenabat; units for the production of complex (N, P, K) fertilizers; gas-chemical complex for the production of mineral fertilizers and chemical products in the city of Mary and many others.

The chemical industry of Turkmenistan is one of the attractive areas for foreign investments, the article said.

The manufacture of highly liquid chemical products for the domestic market and export is economically viable for all participants in such projects. The availability of modern transport infrastructure and its integration into the international transportation system, including large seaports, will solve the problems of exporting large-tonnage chemical products in different directions, the newspaper reported.

Over the past ten years, the country’s total mineral fertilizer production capacity has been more than tripled. During this period, new ammonia-urea complexes in the cities of Mary and Garabogaz, Garlyk potash mining complex, the largest in Central Asia, and a sulfuric acid production workshop as part of the Turkmenabat Chemical Plant, were built.

During the implementation of these projects, financial investments in which amounted to more than $3.3 billion, leading world companies from Japan, the US and the EU acted as partners.

Currently, the state concern “Turkmenhimiya” includes 11 industrial enterprises that form the basis of the country’s chemical industry. The priority tasks for the development of the industry include the introduction of highly efficient, energy- and resource-saving technologies based on the latest scientific and technical developments.

Special attention is paid to expanding the production of mineral fertilizers, which is associated with the presence of a raw material base, the high capacity of the domestic market in this type of product, and increasing the efficiency of agricultural production, the article said.
