Turkmenistan implementing seismic risk reduction program

Turkmenistan is implementing a state program to reduce seismic risk in earthquake-prone zones, Trend reports with reference to the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan.

The conference held in Ashgabat on the “A set of measures aimed at enhancing seismic safety in Turkmenistan” topic was dedicated to this program’s implementation.

The event was attended by representatives of the Institute of Earthquake Engineering, the Ministry of Construction and Architecture, the Civil Defense and Rescue Directorate of the Turkmen Defense Ministry.

The priority tasks included clarifying the degree of seismic hazard for urban areas and especially important objects in Turkmenistan, studying and forecasting dangerous geodynamic processes to assess seismic risk and implement measures to reduce it, organizing a system for monitoring the state of the geological environment.

Issues related to the quality of construction work, developments in the field of resource-saving technologies and the production of industrial building materials, taking into account international norms and standards, were considered separately, the report said.

The introduction of digital technologies into the monitoring system of the seismological service, which made it possible to obtain new information about the deep structure of the earth’s crust was discussed.
