Trend:

Iran continues working on infrastructure in the Chabahar Free Zone that includes construction of an airport, Zahedan railway and a gas pipeline, Managing director of Chabahar Free Zone Abdolrahim Kordi told Trend.

"Three ongoing projects in Chabahar's port that include railway and a gas transmission pipeline are progressing with good pace. The missing part of infrastructure in the Chabahar Free Zone was the airport. This issue has been resolved with provided support from the Minister of Road and Urban Development and Sistan and Baluchestan governor," he said.

"The research and design of the airport has started alongside negotiations with contractors," he indicated.

"I can not name the contractors, but they are local. The resources are provided via domestic sources and foreign investments as well. There would be changes in the project's construction, if foreign investment is provided, otherwise we will continue working with a domestic contractor," he said.

"The primary agreement in the first phase costs $130 million while the costs of other phases haven't been named so far. It is predicted that some one million passengers will be transported within the first phase of the airport's launch," Kordi said.

"The first piece of the Chabahar – Zahedan railway from Chabahar to Iranshahr , had progressed by 65 percent. The Ministry of Road and Urban Development seeks to finalize the project, since €300 million has been assigned by the National Development Fund to this project. It seems the project will be launched sometime in 2021," he said referring to the railway project.
