Azerbaijani company discloses rice production volumes in 2019

Mugan Duyu company, which is a rice producer in Azerbaijan’s Astara district, has slightly increased manufacturing of its products, compared to 2018, Talat Mammadov, director of the company, told Trend.

“The company’s production volumes reached 200 tons of rice since early 2019,” the director added.

“We plan to produce up to 40 tons of rice per month,” Mammadov added. “Presently, this figure is about 20-25 tons. The production volumes totaled over 175 tons of rice in 2018. The products are sold in Astara, Baku and other cities of the country.”

“There is the biggest demand in the domestic market for new types of rice imported from Italy, as well as Iranian “Hashimi” rice, which is grown in Astara district,” the director said.

Rice is cultivated in Azerbaijan’s Bilasuvar, Lankaran, Astara, Masalli and Khachmaz districts.

The country's annual demand for this product is estimated at 40,000 tons, which is mainly covered as a result of import.

In accordance with the state program for the development of rice growing in Azerbaijan (for 2018-2025), the indicated volumes must be ensured through the domestic volumes one until 2025.

The cultivation areas will be increased up to 10,000 hectares, harvesting - up to 40,000 tons in 2025 in accordance with the forecasts of the Azerbaijani government.

In general, rice harvest must increase by more than 2.5 times in Azerbaijan.
