Georgia sums up inflation and price dynamics in 2019

Consumer Price Index increased by 0.4 percent in December 2019 compared to November 2019 in Georgia, while the annual inflation rate amounted to 7 percent, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Service (Geostat).

In December last year, the inflation rate without tobacco amounted to 0.4 percent compared to November 2019, while the prices increased by 6.3 percent compared to December 2018.

Price for fruits increased by 32 percent compared to December 2018, vegetables by 14 percent, dairy products by 13.5 percent, meat by 15 percent, and bread products by 6.6 percent.

Within one year, food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 12.3 percent.

In particular, prices increased in the following groups: fruits and grapes (by 31.9 percent), meat and meat products (by 14.8 percent), fish products (by 14.9 percent), vegetables and melons (by 14.1 percent), milk, cheese and eggs (13.5 percent), sugar, jams and other sweets (10.7 percent), mineral and spring water, soft drinks and natural juices (9.1 percent), bread and bakery products (by 6.6 percent) coffee, tea and cocoa (by 5 percent), and vegetable oil and fats (by 4.6 percent).

Alcohol and tobacco prices increased by 15.6 percent. In particular, tobacco products went up by 30.8 percent and alcoholic beverages by 3.1 percent.

Meanwhile, the prices for services in recreation, entertainment and cultural sectors rose by 6.9 percent. Prices in the transport sector increased by 2.9 percent increase, while prices in hotels, cafés and restaurants increased by 7.9 percent.
