Kazakhstan talks implementation of largest PPP project with EBRD

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 2

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Implementation of the largest public-private partnership (PPP) project in Kazakhstan — the construction of the Big Almaty Ring Road – was discussed with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s prime minister.

The project was discussed within the framework of the meeting between Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin and the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti.

“Over the past 27 years, the EBRD's investment in Kazakhstan in 271 projects in the financial, infrastructure, energy, agricultural sectors, IT technology and utilities sectors, as well as in supporting small and medium-sized businesses has exceeded $9 billion,” Mamin said.

He added that agreements for implementation of 29 projects worth over $750 million in the industrial, transport, energy, agricultural, financial and other sectors of Kazakhstan were signed this year.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the upcoming participation of EBRD in the implementation of the Comprehensive Program for the Modernization of Healthcare Infrastructure in Kazakhstan. In particular, EBRD plans to participate in financing the construction of new multidisciplinary hospitals in the cities of Kyzylorda, Kostanay, Taraz, Atyrau, Kokshetau, Pavlodarm and Almaty.

Alongside the project on the construction of the Big Almaty Ring Road, Mamin and Chakrabarti discussed prospects for developing PPP projects in the areas of housing and communal services, transport infrastructure, renewable energy sources and other fields.
