Iran's processing industry needs more support and solutions to reduce agricultural waste, member of parliaments agriculture committee Ali Akbari told Trend.
"There is high volume of agricultural products that is being wasted in the country, since people buy more than they need. The country's processing industry is not effective and this will lead to damages for agriculture and especially fruits production," Akbari said.
"The country has a good potential in agriculture, but processing industry has not developed well. The Sixth Development Plan for 2016 - 2021 has predicted incentives for individuals and entrepreneurs in this field," Akbari added.
"The Ministry of Agriculture has initiated measures to improve production cycle so that the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors can manage production chain from farms and gardens to households, create value added and bring revenues to the producer," he added.
"The price of major agricultural production is different between the one set up by farmers and that in the consumer's basket which means that the production is overshadowed by intermediary dealers who profit without making any effort," he said.
