Iran's Khatunabad copper smelter’s production increases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25

The copper cathode production at Khatunabad copper smelter plant in Kerman province (southeastern Iran) increased by 12.4 percent compared to the plan in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year (April 20-May 20, 2020), said Managing Director of the National Iranian Copper Industries Company Ardashir Sad Mohammadi, Trend reports citing company’s website.

According to Sad Mohammadi, in the second month, the Khatunabad copper smelter produced 9,310 tons of copper cathode.

Sad Mohammadi added that production of copper cathode at the plant creased by 2.5 percent compared to the previous record.

The director said that anode copper production at the plant increased by 14 percent in the 2nd month compared to the 1st month (March 20-April 19).

On May 7, a new phase of the Khatunabad plant was put into operation. With the commissioning of this phase, the annual production of anode copper at the smelter increased from 80,000 tons to 120,000 tons.

About 118 million euros and 1.11 trillion rials (about $26.4 million) funds have been invested in the commissioning of this phase of the smelter.
