Iran bans import of thousands of products

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17

The import of 2,224 products to Iran has been banned in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade of Iran and Chairman of the Iran's Trade Development Organization Hamid Zadboum told IRIB, Trend reports.

The deputy minister said that these bans have been introduced to boost domestic production of these products in the country.

Zadboum added that during the Iranian year before last (from March 21, 2018 through March 21, 2019), the import of about 1,400 products to Iran was banned.

The chairman stressed that last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), Iran's imports consisted of three major parts including investment-related products, consumer goods and semi-manufactured products.

"The imports of semi-manufactured products accounted for 67.3 percent, investment-related products - for 13.6 percent, and consumer products - for 17 percent of total volume, while other products accounted for the remaining 0.3 percent,” he said.

Zadboum added that the import of products decreased by an average of 7 percent over the past three years (from March 21, 2017 to March 20, 2020).

Iran exported 9.17 million tons of products worth $2.64 billion in two months of the current Iranian year (from April 20 through May 20, 2020). During the period, Iran imported 3.87 million tons of products worth $3.11 billion.

Iran exported 133 million tons of products worth $41.3 billion in the last Iranian year, and imported 35.3 million tons of products worth $43.7 billion.
