The changes in tobacco sales in the Azerbaijani domestic market remain insignificant, director of the department of production and operations of the Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation Ilham Bayramov told Trend.
“Some 30 tons of cut-strip tobacco, 180 tons of leaf tobacco and about 100 tons of tobacco derivative have been sold throughout the country since the beginning of the year,” Bayramov added.
"Moreover, in accordance with the State Program for the Development of Tobacco Industry in Azerbaijan in 2017-2021, the necessary work is being carried out together with relevant structures to support local tobacco producers and processors, as well as increase the sales volumes of tobacco products, produced by farmers, in the domestic market," the director of the department said.
He also stressed that many domestic cigarette manufacturing companies cooperate with the most famous and biggest companies in the world.
"In this regard, the visits of foreign experts representing these companies were organized to inspect tobacco plantations and existing infrastructure, and the corresponding samples were sent abroad for verification and testing," Bayramov said.
The president approved the state program on the development of tobacco and tobacco products in Azerbaijan on August 10, 2017. The program is planned for 2017-2021. Its main goals are to increase tobacco productivity up to 20 centners per hectare, expand the cultivated area of tobacco up to 6,000 hectares and an increase in production up to 12,000 tons of tobacco.
