Retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan down

The cost of products sold in Azerbaijan’s retail chains amounted to 18.2 billion manat ($10.7 billion) from January through June 2020, which is 1.9 percent less compared to the same period in 2019, Trend reports on July 19 referring to the country’s State Statistics Committee.

The turnover of products, beverages and tobacco products amounted to 9.7 billion manat ($5.7 billion) which is by 3.1 percent more than from January through June 2019.

The turnover of non-food products amounted to 8.5 billion manat ($5 billion), decreasing by 6.9 percent compared to the same period of 2019.

E-commerce turnover increased by 1.8 times compared to the period from January through June 2019.

In the first six months of this year, 48 percent of the money spent by buyers (of final consumer goods) accounted for food products, 14.7 percent for textile products, clothes and footwear, 5.7 percent for furniture and electrical goods, 5.4 percent for the purchase of motor fuel, 5.3 percent for beverages, tobacco products, 1.7 percent for pharmaceutical and medical products, 0.8 percent for computers, telecommunications equipment and printing products.

Meanwhile, 18.6 percent of the total value accounted for other non-food products.

During the reporting period, nearly 23.5 percent of consumer goods were sold by trading companies. Individual entrepreneurs accounted for 50.4 percent, markets and fairs – 26.1 percent of the specific share.

The retail trade turnover in real terms increased by 15.1 percent for enterprises, 0.7 percent for individual entrepreneurs and decreased by 17.2 percent for markets and fairs from January through June 2020 compared to the same period of 2019.

The average monthly turnover of retail trade per capita from January through June 2020 amounted to 305.3 manat ($179.6) or 2 manat ($1.2) more in nominal terms than in the same period of 2019.

The average monthly volume of the sold food products per capita amounted to 162.8 manat ($95.8), and non-food products - 142.5 manat ($83.8) during the reporting period.
