The transit corridor between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran has been officially launched, the director general of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration’s Transit Bureau Mostafa Ayati told Trend.

Ayati stressed that two trucks were sent from the Shahid Rajaee port of Hormozgan Province (southern Iran) to Kyrgyzstan via Afghanistan-Tajikistan road for the first time.

He added that increasing transit corridors using the TIR Convention and reducing transit costs to Central Asian countries are in the focus of Iranian customs.

The director general noted that these trucks are moving towards Kyrgyzstan via the Iranian Dogharoun border customs.

"Also, 5 trucks from Iran to Tajikistan started moving through Afghanistan, and these trucks crossed the Dogharoun border customs," he said.

Ayati said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is the most profitable route for product transit to Central Asian countries, as it has easier access to international waters.

According to him, faster delivery of products, reduction of costs via KTAI transit corridor will lead to economic development of the region.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration has implemented TIR project with Turkey, Azerbaijan, Slovenia, India and Afghanistan and is working to develop transit routes," he said.
