New Russian goods were delivered to the Azerbaijani market during the COVID-19 pandemic, Trade Representative of Russia in Azerbaijan Ruslan Mirsayapov told Trend.

The goods delivered are self-unloading and covered railway cars, polycarbonates, and wheeled tractors with a capacity of 37-75 kilovolts.

“Despite the perfectly explainable difficulties caused by the need to comply with strict quarantine measures in Russia and Azerbaijan during the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a growth in mutual trade,” Mirsayapov said.

According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia, over the first five months of 2020, the volume of foreign trade between Azerbaijan and Russia made up over $1.1 billion, which is 5.3 percent more compared to the same period of 2019, the representative noted.

“It is encouraging to see that the driving force for the growth of Russian exports to Azerbaijan was not raw materials, but non-energy exports of middle and upper levels, namely, mechanical engineering products such as vehicles, communication equipment, and railway equipment, finished food products and wood processing products. At the same time, supplies from Russia of a wide range of products, not only related to the prevention of COVID-19, increased,” he said.

Mirsayapov emphasized that sugar, wheat, flat products, freight cars, liquid pumps are among the non-energy exports from Russia leading in supplies to Azerbaijan this year.
