The volume of cargo unloaded at Iran's Northern Railway stations increased by 133 percent, during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 20-July 21, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year, director of the Iranian Northern Railway Gholamhossein Valadi said, Trend reports citing Iran's Railway Company’s official website.

Valadi said that more than 572,000 tons of cargo were unloaded at the stations of the railway over 4 months. However, this figure was more than 245,000 tons in the same period last Iranian year.

"In addition, more than 441,000 tons of cargo was loaded at the stations of the railway within 4 months. This is an increase of 68 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year," he said.

The official emphasized that a total of 146,200 tons of cargo was transported via the Astara railway terminal in four months. This is an increase of 32 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year. About 111,000 tons of cargo was transported through this terminal in the same period last Iranian year.

"During the reporting period, a total of 75,000 tons of products were exported to Azerbaijan via the Astara railway. This is an increase of 132 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, 32,300 tons of products were exported in the same period last Iranian year, he said.

Valadi noted that 60,800 tons of products were imported to Iran via the Astara railway in 4 months. This is an increase of 5 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year. While 58,100 tons of products were imported via this terminal in the last Iranian year.
