Uzbekistan doubles industrial production volume in 1H2020

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 17

Uzbekistan currently has 18 free economic zones (FEZ), 71 small industrial zones, three technoparks and 259 clusters, Trend reports citing the report of State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The largest number of free economic zones was registered in Tashkent region - four units, as well as in Bukhara, Jizzakh and Namangan regions - two units in each.

According to the data from January through June 2020, the total volume of industrial production made up 10.8 trillion soum (over $1 billion), free economic zones' production reached 4.9 trillion soum ($476.3 million), small industrial zones - 1.1 trillion soum ($106.9 million), technology parks - 69.4 billion soum ($6.74 million) and clusters - 4.7 trillion soum (over $457 million).

In the period from January to June 2019, the volume of industrial production was 5.2 trillion soum ($505.6 million), of which 3.1 trillion soums ($301.4 million) was accounted for free economic zones, 69.9 billion soum ($6.79 million) - technoparks, and 1.1 trillion soum ($106.9 million) - for clusters.

The first FEZ in Uzbekistan was Navoi Free Economic Zone, which was established in 2008. Today, about 30 enterprises with foreign investors operate in the region, and their number is growing every year.
