German-Austrian-Swedish consortium implements project in mining sector of Uzbekistan

The Uzbek government is seeking to develop the geological exploration, representative of the State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources of Uzbekistan (GoscomGeology) told Trend in an interview.

For this purpose, a project of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on Mining Sector Development Program is currently being implemented in Uzbekistan, with the involvement of German-Austrian-Swedish consortium of Projekt Consult GmbH, MinPol GmbH and Swedish Geology AB, under the guidance of Projekt Consult GmbH (as a consultant).

According to the representative, the project is implemented within the framework of Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Cooperation signed between EBRD and the Government of Uzbekistan. It aims to develop policy to significantly reduce risks to investors and improve the investment climate.

The government of Uzbekistan developed the Program on Development and Reproduction of Mineral Resources Base of Uzbekistan.

“The program envisages allocation of 1.6 trillion soum [$157.1 million] for modernization of technical facilities and equipment, transition to international reporting standards and training of specialists, as well as study and introduction of foreign best practices,” said the representative.

At present, drilling rigs of world manufacturers such as Boart Longyear (USA), Fordia (Canada), Atlas Copco (Sweden) and Hanjin D&B Equipments and others are used inthe exploration industry in Uzbekistan.

According to the representative, portable X-ray fluorescent analyzers Innov-X, Horiba SLFA-2100/2800, X-MET8000 and stationary Taigir ISP MS and Satmagan were purchased for discovery of chemical elements in rocks and ores.

“One of the main priorities for the long-term development of the industry is to improve the regulatory and legal framework for subsoil use, which will ensure accelerated, efficient development of the mineral resource base of the country, simplify the process of issuing licenses, ensure rational use of subsoil and responsibility of subsoil users, preparation and issuance of objective and efficient information on subsoil,” representative stressed.
