Iranian major steel companies boost iron ore concentrate production

The iron ore concentrate production of nine major Iranian steel companies increased by 4 percent during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 20-September 21, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year, Trend reports citing Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

During the reporting period, these companies produced 24.6 million tons of iron ore concentrate. This figure was 23.7 million tons in the same period last Iranian year, according to the report.

“Thus, Golgohar Mining and Industrial Company produced 8.11 million tons of iron ore concentrate, Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Company - 5.54 million tons, Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company (MIDHCO) - 3.37 million tons, Gohar Zamin Iron Ore Company - 2.2 million tons, Central Iron Ore Company of Iran - 2.06 million tons,” the report said.

In addition, Sanabad Mine and Industrial Development Company produced 1.2 million tons of iron ore concentrate, Opal Parsian Sangan Industrial and Mining Company - 1.13 million tons, Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company - 710,000 tons and Jalalabad Iron Ore Complex – 213,000 tons over 6 months of current Iranian year, the report added.

According to the report, these companies produced 4.24 million tons of iron ore concentrate in the 6th month of current Iranian year (August 22-September 21). This is an increase of 6 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. While in the same period last Iranian year, 4.04 million tons of iron ore concentrate were produced.

“At the same time, these companies transported 8.9 million tons of iron ore concentrate to the relevant manufacturing companies in six months. This is a decrease of 12 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, this figure amounted 10 million tons in the same period last Iranian year,” the report noted.

Furthermore, the companies transported 1.54 million tons of iron ore concentrate to the relevant manufacturing companies in the 6th month, which is 5 percent decreased compared to the same month last Iranian year (1.62 million tons), the report said.

According to the report, Iranian major steel companies produced about 641,000 tons of iron ore pellets over six months. This is a decrease of 49 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year (1.25 million tons).
