Iran to grow its exports from Astara port

A total of 350 tons of various Iranian goods were exported from Astara port of Gilan Province (northern Iran) to Aktau port of Kazakhstan since the beginning of 8th month of current Iranian year (October 22), the Executive Director of Kaveh Port and Marine Services Company Alireza Cheshm Jahan told journalists, Trend reports citing ILNA.

According to him, these goods were exported via 31 units of TEU containers.

Cheshm Jahan added that the goods are currently transported from the Astara port to the Aktau port and vice versa every two weeks.

The director noted that furthermore, a container transportation service will be launched between the Astara port and the Astrakhan port of Russia, which will play a major role in activating the North-South Corridor.

"The goods transported via these containers are mainly fruits, vegetables, other agricultural products and handicrafts," he said.

A total of 20,000 tons of goods were loaded and unloaded at the Iran’s Astara port in the 6th month of the current Iranian year (from August 22 through September 21). As many as 13,400 tons of goods were loaded at the port for export, and 6,600 tons were unloaded for import.
