A plan is being implemented to increase the area for growth of herbal plants on Iranian plateaus by 50,000 hectares in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, to March 21, 2021), an official of Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization, Tarahhom Behzad said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.
Behzad said that according to this plan, the production in these areas will increase from 10-20 percent to 70-80 percent.
He added that it is planned to be harvested 20 kilograms of medicinal plants per hectare of land and produced 1,000 tons of products in total.
The official emphasized that the sowing of seeds and using of water resources properly on 45,000 hectares of land, and planting of branches and seedlings on 5,000 hectares of land are planned.
Behzad noted that 45,000 tons of herbal plants were produced on the plateaus in Iran in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).
According to him, 1,820 tons of herbal plants worth $15 million were exported in the last Iranian year.
The official also stressed that the herbal plants are grown on 2.8 million hectares on plateaus in Iran, at present.
