IRICA declares details on Iran’s imports

The imports of Iran increased by 47 percent in terms of value and decreased by 18 percent in terms of volume in the 1st month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2021), compared to the same month last Iranian year, Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Mehdi Mirashrafi said, Trend reports citing IRICA.

During the reporting month, Iran imported a total of 2.04 million tons of goods worth $2.79 billion, according to the director-general.

Mirashrafi added that mobile phones worth $198 million, sunflowers worth about $150 million, wheat worth $103 million, rice worth $89 million, and soybeans worth $76 million were the main imported goods.

“Iran imported 453,000 tons of goods worth $788 million from the UAE in the first month. The imports increased by 113 percent in terms of value and 110 percent in terms of volume compared to the same month last Iranian year,” he said.

The customs official stressed that at the same time, Iran imported 221,000 tons of goods worth $656 million from China over 1st month. The is an increase of 64 percent in terms of value and 50 percent in terms of volume compared to the same month last Iranian year.

In addition, Iran's imports from Turkey amounted to 172,000 tons worth $247 million during the first month of the current Iranian year. The imports from Turkey increased by 1 percent in terms of value and decreased by 67 percent in terms of volume compared to the same month last Iranian year, Mirashrafi said.

The director-general noted that Iran also imported 137,000 tons of goods worth $133 million from India within the first month. This is a decrease of 19 percent in terms of value and 35 percent in terms of volume compared to the same month last Iranian year.

“In the 1st month, Iran imported 174,000 tons of goods worth $132 million from Russia. The Imports increased by 30 percent in terms of value and decreased by 48 percent in terms of volume compared to the same month last Iranian year,” he added.

The director-general emphasized that Iran's trade turnover amounted to 10.3 million tons worth $5.76 billion in the 1st month of the current Iranian year. The trade turnover increased by 62.5 percent in terms of value and 32 percent in terms of volume compared to the same month last Iranian year.

According to Mirashrafi, moreover, the transit of cargo through Iran amounted to 933,000 tons in the first month. This is an increase of 193 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year.
