Iran boosts rice imports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30

Iran’s rice imports increased by 34 percent in terms of value and 31 percent in terms of volume during the first two months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through May 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration’s website.

According to Latifi, Iran imported more than 182,000 tons of rice worth $163 million over the reporting period.

"While in the same period last Iranian year, Iran had imported 139,000 tons of rice worth $122 million," he added.

The official noted that at present, 12,000 tons of rice are being released from Iranian customs offices.

As reported, Iran's trade turnover with the world countries amounted to 22.8 million tons worth $12.8 billion in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year (April 21 through 21 May 2021). This is an increase of 38 percent in terms of value and 6.6 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

So, Iran exported 16.9 million tons of goods worth $6.3 billion within the second month. The exports of Iran increased by 48 percent in terms of value and 17 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.

Also, Iran imported 5.3 million tons of goods worth $6.5 billion during the second month. Iran's imports increased by 29.5 percent in terms of value and decreased by 16.5 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same month last Iranian year.
