BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8

Trend:

The State Inspection Committee in the agro-industrial complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan introduced temporary quarantine phytosanitary measures in the form of a ban on the import of tomato and pepper fruits from the territory of Turkmenistan on June 7, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

These measures are caused by the increased frequency of detection of quarantine pests in the fruits of tomato and pepper.

During the quarantine phytosanitary control in the fruits of tomatoes imported into Kazakhstan accompanied by phytosanitary certificates of the state plant quarantine service of Turkmenistan, 19 facts of the presence of the tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) were revealed.

In accordance with the provision of the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures ISPM No. 13 ‘Guidelines for the notification of non-compliance and emergency action’ (Rome, 2002), notifications of violations of quarantine phytosanitary requirements were sent to the State Plant Quarantine Service of Turkmenistan.

Due to the lack of objective data on the investigation of the causes of the emergence of the virus in exported products by the authorized bodies of the neighboring republic, as well as in order to prevent the deterioration of the quarantine phytosanitary situation in Kazakhstan, the Committee introduces a temporary ban on the import of tomato and pepper fruits from Turkmenistan from June 7, 2021.
