Azerbaijan sees decline in industrial output

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 10

Industrial production in Azerbaijan has decreased by 2.2 percent from January through May 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, amounting to 18.8 billion manat ($11 billion), Trend reports citing the State Statistical Committee.

“At the same time, growth of production in the non-oil sector in the reporting period amounted to 16.2 percent. In the oil sector, a 5.2 percent reduction was recorded,” the report said.

“In the general structure of industrial production for the first 5 months of this year, 62.5 percent fell on the mining industry, 31.2 percent - on the processing industry, 5.5 percent - on the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, 0.8 percent - on the spheres of water supply, cleaning and recycling of waste,” said the report.

In the mining sector, oil production decreased by 5.9 percent, while gas production increased by 7.7 percent.

“In the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, the decline was 0.1 percent. In the field of water supply, waste treatment and recycling, an increase of 7.6 percent was recorded,” the report added.

Industrial production in Azerbaijan in 2020 amounted to 37 billion manat ($21.7 billion), which is 5 percent less compared to 2019.
