Iran looks to boost revenues with production of essential oils from herbal plants

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 4

Iran intends to generate $4 billion in revenue from production of essential oils of herbal plants, the manager of the plan on herbal plants of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Hossein Zeynali told ILNA, Trend reports.

According to him, Iran has allowed the construction of plants on the processing of herbal plants. One of these plants is already in operation stage. The number of these plants will increase over the next 2 years.

Zeynali added that at these plants, 50-60 percent of the herbal plants will be processed and converted into essential oils. German technology and South Korean technical knowledge will be used on the construction of the plants.

The official noted that Iran has started planting yellow ginger, ginger, cardamom and cinnamon to reduce imports. Over the next two years, these products will be fully supplied at the expense of the country.

“At present, 80 percent of Iran's black cumin need is met domestically. It is also planned to export this product in the next 2 years,” he said.
