Financing of agriculture grows in Georgia - Minister of Agriculture

The loan portfolio of the Georgian government in the field of agriculture exceeded 2 billion lari ($642.2 million), said the Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Trend reports referring to the Georgian media.

According to him, the government's policy is aimed at co-financing agriculture, food and processing industries, access of citizens working in these areas to financial resources.

"In 2012, loans issued in the field of agriculture and food industry amounted to 50 million lari ($16.05 million), and in recent years their amount exceeded 2 billion lari. For the development of agriculture, food and processing industries, credit resources in the amount of 2 billion lari have been mobilized. only part of our help," Davitashvili said.

According to him, state investments in agriculture by 2030 will amount to 7 billion lari ($2.2 billion).

It should be noted that the program "Preferential agricultural loan" is being implemented in Georgia, within the framework of which loans are issued to farmers at a low rate.

In 2020, 6,200 such loans were issued in Georgia for over 372 million lari ($118.2 million).
