Iran, Belarus to develop agricultural co-op

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov. 15

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Belarus emphasized the need for enhancing and developing bilateral cooperation in the agricultural field, Trend reports citing ILNA.

An Iranian agricultural delegation, headed by Deputy Ministry of Agriculture for Commercial Development Affairs Abbas Askarzadeh, arrived in Minsk to hold the 2nd Working Group of agricultural cooperation between Iran and Belarus.

At the end of three days of consultations between the official of Iran and Belarus in Minsk, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation, emphasizing the strengthening of infrastructure and removal of obstacles to agricultural exchanges.

The official meeting of the Iran-Belarus Agricultural Cooperation Working Group was held at the venue of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus in the presence of deputies’ ministries of agriculture of the two countries and other managers in the field of agriculture.

During the meeting, Askarzadeh met with the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus, Ivan Krupko on the last day of his visit to Belarus. The two sides discussed cooperation in the field of agriculture.
Askarzadeh invited the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus to visit Iran by the end of the current year.

He pointed to the high capacities of Iran's agricultural sector to further increase cooperation in all areas with Belarus.

Ivan Krupko, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus, for his part, pointed to the considerable growth of bilateral trade between Iran and Belarus in the field of agriculture in recent years.

Pointing to Belarus' capabilities in the production of agricultural products, dairy, and food industries, Krupko said the Belarusian government is ready to meet some of Iran's agricultural products need.

He went on to mention the implementation of joint agricultural projects.

An Iranian official said Belarus can meet some of Iran's agricultural needs such as grains, oilseeds, chicken, eggs, and butter, and in return, Iran can meet the needs of Belarus in the field of fish and seafood, fruits, vegetables, and nuts."
