BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Non-oil imports of Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province in the north-west of the country, increased by 14 percent in value and 25 percent in volume, in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Customs Inspector of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province Sadegh Namdar said, Trend reports.
According to him, the province imported a total of 262,000 tons of goods worth $877 million within 7 months.
Namdar added that the main import items were various vehicles and related spare parts (including, passenger cars, trucks, paving machines and machinery used in various fields), wood materials, tobacco, gold bars, cocoa, organic chemical products, etc.
He also stated that the province imported goods from various countries, mainly Türkiye, the UAE, China, Germany and South Korea.
“Over the course of seven months, 1.14 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province,” Namdar said.
The official also pointed out that the revenue of the province's customs for the reporting period was 26 trillion rials (about $619 million), showing an increase of 39 percent compared to the same period last year.
Overall, Iran imported 20.9 million tons of goods worth $36 billion in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2023). This is an increase of 12.6 percent in value and 6.21 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
