Non-oil trade between Iran, Türkiye enlarges

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. Iran's trade turnover with Türkiye amounted to approximately 10.3 million tons worth $9.54 billion in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), said Mohammad Rezvanifar, director general of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Trend reports.

According to Rezvanifar, Iran exported 6.75 million tons of goods worth around $3.5 billion to Türkiye in ten months, which is an increase of 47.1 percent in value and 47.5 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

He added that the main export items were liquefied natural gas (worth $966 million) and urea (worth $616 million).

“At the same time, Iran imported about 3.55 million tons of goods worth over $6 billion dollars from Türkiye in the specified period, representing an 18.7-percent growth in value and a 16.9-percent growth in volume from the same period last year,” the official said.

Rezvanifar also pointed out that Iran mainly imported raw gold, sunflower oil, and tractors from Türkiye during the past ten months.

“In addition, approximately 1.14 million tons of cargo were transited from Türkiye through Iran within 10 months. This is a decrease of 13.8 percent compared to the same period last year,” the director general noted.

Also, 697,000 tons of goods were transited to Türkiye through Iran during the mentioned period, showing an increase of 17 percent compared with the same period of the previous Iranian year.

It should be noted that Iran and Türkiye aim to increase the annual trade turnover to $30 billion.
