The German CES Consulting Engineers will develop the Feasibility Study for the Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline construction project, the Azersu Joint Stock Company (JSC) press-release spread on 12 January reports, according to Trend. The company became the tender winner and the relevant contract has been signed with it.

The works on the Feasibility Study and the design and estimate documents involve acknowledgement of underground waters operating reserves, reception of independent international references on the pipeline route, preparation of reports on phasing and the environmental impact assessment of the works related to the project and on the use of the Oguz-Gabala-Baku main water pipeline.

Directives on laying the water pipeline in the Oguz-Gabala area for Baku water supply improvement have been issued by former president Heydar Aliyev in December 2002. Certain works have been carried out in this regard and hydro-geological studies have been conducted by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) aimed at specifying the water reserves in the source.

At the sitting held by the countrys president on 1 September 2005 laying the Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline was considered expedient and relevant directions were given to develop the Feasibility Report. According to the MENR and Azersu preliminary data the operating reserves of the underground waters in this area at 450-500 meters above the sea level is over 15 m3/sec. The water quality here by its physical and chemical characteristics is very high and meets fully the world standards.
