(autoinsidernews) - Volvo's forthcoming crossover SUV that will be positioned below the XC90 will use the XC60 nameplate, according to Automedia reports citing a Swedish insider involved with the project. While the vehicle was expected to carry the XC50 nameplate, Volvo has decided to call the new crossover SUV XC60, reports Trend.

Volvo will debut a concept of the XC60 at the Detroit Auto Show in January, but a production version isn't expect to arrive until spring of 2008. Internally using the Y278 codename, it will share the EUCD platform with the forthcoming V70, engines are likely to come from the S40/V50, and miscellanous parts with Land Rover's Freelander2/LR3, including its Haldex AWD system.
