31 December 2006 to 3 or 4 January 2007 may be proclaimed holidays in Azerbaijan, Trend reports quoting the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan. 31 December is the Solidarity Day for Azerbaijanis world-wide. This year 31 December will be marked in the Muslim world as Moslem Festival of Sacrifice. Both holidays take place on Sunday. According to the Law of Azerbaijan Republic dated 30 December 2005 On making amendments and annexes to Labor Code, if the holidays falls on a weekend, these holidays are automatically transferred to the next working day.
At present discussions on this decision are being held in Parliament. The Cabinet of Ministers awaits the decision of the Parliament. According to Law On making amendments and annexes to Labor Code, 1-2 January has been announced as holidays.
