Honda considering plug-in hybrids

(autoinsidenews) - Honda announced at the Detroit Auto Show that it is considering development of a plug-in electric hybrid vehicle.

Plug-in hybrids allow owners to recharge vehicles at home and will run entirely on electricity for longer periods of time than current hybrids. General Motors unveiled a plug-in hybrid вЂ" the Chevrolet Volt вЂ" at the Detroit Auto Show, reports Trend.

Current battery technology remains a significant barrier to successful development of plug-in hybrid vehicles. The only factor standing in the way of these vehicles is the limitations in battery technology. Motoatsu Shiraishi, president of Honda Research and Development said that current battery capacity has to improve significantly and must be able to be recharged faster.
