Capital Repair to be Implemented in Shimal Electric Power Station of Azerbaijan

Next week, the mission of the Japanese Mitsubishi will arrive to Baku. During the visit, the specialists of the Company will visit Shimal Electric Power Station, Trend reports with reference to the press-service of Azerenerji JSC. The specialists of the company intend to determine the volume of the work for upcoming August-September capital repair of 400MW steam&gas unit.

This SGU was given into exploitation in 2002 and its repair is justified through technical rules of exploitation, according to which, the unit should be repaired. Then repair work will by carried out in presence of the specialists of AZENCO Company, under leadership of Mitsubishi.

Presently Azerenerji JSC intends to carry out the construction of the second SGU in this station. For this purpose, the work on the first unit will be assessed. Three Japanese missions will arrive to Baku to carry out the assessment. The assessment report will be prepared in May.

Presently two companies have expressed their wishes to participate in the tender of Azerenerji JSC on projection, construction, commissioning and launch of steam and gas unit at Shimal power plant. One of them is - Mitsui/Mitsubishi, which has realized the construction of the first steam and gas unit at this electric power station, and the second company is South Korean Bumjin Corporation.

The project includes construction of 400MW output rating steam and gas unit, four 220-kVt electricity transmission lines and 220/110-kVt substation. The project should be implemented within 27 months.

Those interested may receive tender documents. The proposals should be presented till January 22, 2007. They will be opened on January 22, 2007. In May 2005 Azeri government and JBIC signed a credit agreement for funding second steam&gas unit construction at Shimal. JBIC is issuing a preferential credit in amount of 29.28bn yen for this purpose for a period of 40 years at 0.75% annual rate. Shimal at the moment operates one 400MW steam&gas unit erected by Mitsui/Mitsubishi alliance.
