IMF Stands Ready to Provide Technical Assistance to Taxes Ministry of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expressed its readiness to provide technical assistance to the Taxes Ministry of Azerbaijan in various directions. The Head of the IMF mission and Deputy Director of IMF Department for Near East and Central Asia, Vitaly Kramarenko, stated that the assistance may be rendered firstly in improving the administration system of value added tax (VAT).

"A technical mission had been sent to the Ministry in 2004. The issue of additional assistance will be resolved after considering the results," Kramarenko said.

In addition, the Ministry was offered to assist in liquidating the tax debts, he said. Presently the tax debts have left for eight percent of taxpayers and the Taxes Ministry intends to continue the work to decrease it this year.

In addition, the IMF may assist in devising unified methods for defining the impacts of the macro-economic growth on preparation of the budget forecasts. This proposal was also made at the meting with Kramarenko at the Ministry.
