Russian Aluminium Company Retains Interest to Construction of Aluminium Plant in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / According to unofficial reports, Russian Aluminium JSC is still interested in the Azerbaijani market, the head of the trade representative office of Russia in Azerbaijan, Yuri Schedrin , stated.

The negotiations of the former Russian Aluminium JSC with Azerbaijani Government on the project of construction of an aluminium plant in Azerbaijan have been temporary suspended due to the re-organization of RusAla structure and its merging with new SuAl company.

It is assumed that the investments into construction of the new plant will make up $1bln and the plant will provide for some 6,000 occupations.

Before the implementation of the project the sides had intentions to agree on the terms of participation. According to expert calculations, expenditures for electric energy with the prime cost of aluminium production comprises of 75%. For this reason, the production of aluminium without provision for energy power is impossible. In this connection the Russian company put forward a number of requirements for privileges of energy resources, as production of aluminium requires plenty of energy. .

Agreement on all the terms has not yet been achieved.
