Construction of Multi-storey Buildings in Azerbaijan’s Ganja City Has Shortcomings – Expert

Azerbaijan, Ganja / Тrend corr V. Mammadov / The place for construction of new buildings in Azerbaijan's Ganja city was selected incorrectly and that can cause a range of problems, Chingiz Bayramov, who worked in Ganja City Communal & Housing Production Association for a long time, said on 12 September.

According to him, there is a range of problems in construction of multi-storey buildings.

A building which was under construction by Mutaffakir company collapsed on 28 August at 5:00 p.m. As a result, 13 people died, 5 were injured. According to official reports, another 14 people are supposed to still remain trapped under the ruins.

Construction of skyscrapers in Ganja was temporary suspended after the incident in Baku. Monitoring exercises are being carried out.

There are shortcomings in construction of multi-storey buildings, Bayramov said. "Almost all buildings are constructed on the basis of frameworks. While pouring concrete mass the thick lay goes down and the fluid lay remains on the surface, what makes the upper lay very vulnerable. As a result, damage risk increases," he said.

Several new buildings in Ganja were constructed on dives which are over 15 in the city, the expert reported.

Ganja is located 365km west of Baku.
