Head of   Azerbaijan  National  Academy of Sciences Highlights Site of First Nuclear-Investigation Reactor in Country

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend A.Badalova / The Head of Azerbaijan's National Academy of Sciences, Mahmud Kerimv, announced the site planned for the construction of the first nuclear-investigation reactor in Azerbaijan.

"The initial site has already been determined - on the highway between Baku and Sumgayt," Kerimov said.

He stressed that during a meeting in Vienna on 19-21 September; the IAEA accepted Azerbaijan's proposals for the construction of a nuclear-investigation reactor in the country and will provide financial support.

According to Kerimov, the construction has been scheduled for 2009-2011. The capacity of the reactor will comprise 1 MVt.

Kerimov said that there are no alternatives for the atomic electric station. Many countries who earlier rejected atomic stations are now currently trying to construct such stations. He said that there are no plans to construct an atomic station in Azerbaijan in the near future.

Talks are not being held yet on the construction of the atomic station, Kerimov added.
