LUKOIL Prepares for Exploration Drilling on Prospective Offshore Field in   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Aliyev / Russian LUKOIL Company expects the rigs named after Heydar Aliyev belonging to Danish Maersk to become free in June 2008 in order to drill the second exploration well on Azerbaijani perspective field Yalama (block D-222), said the Head of the Overseas Operating Company, Gennady Shokurov, on 6 October.

The second exploration well will be nearly 2650 meters in depth and will be drilled in 22km from the first exploration well.

In mid September engineering-geological investigation in depth of 656- 720 meters will be carried out on the territory intended for drilling the second well. Digital investigation will be held in the section of 2.5х2.5 sq.m around the place envisaged for the search and exploration drilling and 6x6 section around territory envisaged for the search and exploration drilling. The work will last 15 days.

LUKOIL drilled the first exploration well on Yalama field in 2005 in depth of 4400 meters. During the drilling, small volume of hydrocarbon was discovered which was not commercially interesting for the Company.

Block D-222 is part of Yalama field, a biggest field in northern-eastern part of the Caspian Sea.
