State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Lays New Underwater Gas Pipeline

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend / The Oil and Gas Construction Trust of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) began constructing a new underwater gas pipeline, which will connect the Oil Rocks and Bahar fields, SOCAR said. McDermott is the subcontractor of the trust.

The discharge capacity of the 20" gas pipeline with a length of 67km is 5.5mln cu m of gas. The water depth in the area of construction ranges from 10 to 30 meters. The pipes were bought from Greece and concrete coating at EUPEC of SOCAR. The pipeline will be given for use by the end of 2007.

The pipeline was designed for the transportation of increasing volumes of gas extracted at the Shallow Water Guneshli field, which SOCAR develops independently.

The pipeline laying is being carried out by the Israfil Huseynov pipelay vessel. The new pipeline will be the third to be laid in this route.

SOCAR set a target to increase gas production to 8bln cu m.
