Oil&Gas Materials 29 March 2008 18:32 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan, Baku, 29 March / Trend corr. I.Khalilova / On 23 April a meeting of Energy Committee will take place in Baku within CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation), a source stated at Asian Development Bank's Baku office.

Curator of the event is the World Bank which already sent an invitation to Azerbaijan's Minister of Industry and Energy, Natig Aliyev, to chair the Committee.

The WB and CAREC participating countries will present their energy strategies during the meeting. They will discuss plans on energy co-operation of the CAREC participating countries.

Robert Siy, the director of ADB Regional Cooperation Department, said during his recent visit to Baku that the plan may be approved at the Ministerial conference which will take place in Baku at the end of November.

CAREC is a partnership involving eight countries ( Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) and six international financial institutions (Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, UNDP, World Bank and Islamic Development Bank).

Siy considers that construction of the pipelines to transport hydrocarbons also may be part of the energy program. It will affect eight participating countries. Probability is not excluded that the number of the participating countries will increase because currently Turkmenistan, who contains status of observer in CAREC, also participates in the transport project.
