Creation of Baltic-Black-Caspian Energy Transit Cooperation Expected in Summit in Kiev

Ukraine, Kiev, 8 May / Trend corr. Z.Novosvitski / The initiative to create the Baltic-Black-Caspian energy transit cooperation by the Ukrainian President Viktor Yushenko will be the key issue in the summit in Kiev on 22 and 23 May. This information was stated by Bogdan Sokolovski, the Ukrainian President commissioner on international energy security issues, stated during the news conference in Kiev.

Establishing such cooperation will provide a new energy transit of European Energy Charter to promote a balance amongst producers, consumers and transporters of energy carriers.

"The key target is to provide a reliable and guaranteed oil and gas transit with favourable tariffs," Sokolovski stated.

Another relevant topic to be discussed at the summit will be the Odessa-Brodi oil pipeline. According to Sokolovski, the oil pipeline will be put into operation through averse regime in compliance with the energy security strategy of Ukraine. Variations will be developed to transit oil from Brodi to the north, west and east.

Sokolovski said that this oil pipeline would have an important meaning for both European consumers and exporters of the Caspian Sea region.
