Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 June / Trend corr S. Aliyev/ "By the end of this month AzeriFugro company will commence geotechnical study in the Azeri field for possible construction of a new platform," a source close to the project said on 11 June.

Geotechnics will be set up in the western part of the Azeri field. Four wells with their depths varying between 70m and 150m will be drilled from crane vessel The Azerbaijan.

Setup of new platforms in the BP-operated Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields is required to develop Balakhani Svita. Currently, BP and State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) are negotiating in this connection. Construction may be commenced only after completion of the work.

Development of Balakhani Svita requires construction of two new platforms. One of them is required for Chirag and the deep part of Gunashli, the second for the western, eastern and central parts of Azeri.

ВР intends to construct new platforms to expand the project on full-scale development of Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field through production of oil from new layers. That regards Balakhani Svita which contains 350mln barrels of oil.

Through extra oil production from new layers, the company intends to maintain high production as long as possible. Completion of a platform in Chirag in 2013 will enable oil production of 100,000 barrels per day and will prolong stable production for one more year. The same is expected from construction of a platform in Azeri in 2015.
