Azerbaijan, Baku, August 27 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

SOCAR launched three-dimensional seismic research on prospective gas-condensate offshore structure Bahar-2 in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, SOCAR said. The company intends to drill a deep well in this structure.

SOCAR's 'Geophysic-1', 'Geophysic-2' and 'Baku' ships will conduct operations. Geological exploration will be conducted in the depth of 6-8 kilometers to find oil and gas structures. Operations will be made with use of U.S modern equipment made by employees of geology and geophysics department of the company.

Bahar field was discovered in 1968. About 10 million cubic meters of natural gas was extracted per day in 1980 of last century. This figure provided the country's needs in gas to the amount of 30-40 percent. About 128 billion cubic meters of gas and 16.8 million tons of oil and condensate were extracted for 40 years from this field.

At present, about 0.5 million cubic meters of gas and 20-30 tons of condensate are extracted per day from this field. Moreover, SOCAR's geologists optimistically treat extraction potential at Bahar-2.
