Kazakhstan is interested in using the Baku-Supsa pipeline to pump its own oil, Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Serik Primbetov, told journalists at a news-conference on Aug.28.
"We are very interested in pumping Kazakh oil through the Baku-Supsa and the question is under negotiation. It is an issue of vital importance," Primbetov said. "This pipeline transports Caspian oil to the Black Sea port of Georgia."
Kazakhstan is interested in using alternative routes for transporting its oil on from Baku, in particular the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline, currently owned by the Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC), which develops Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field in Azerbaijan's sector of the Caspian Sea. The pipeline's current capacity 7.2 million tons per year, representatives of the Kazakh Energy and Natural Resources Ministry told Trend earlier.
Conditions for the transportation of Kazakh oil through the Baku-Supsa pipeline and the coordination of mutually beneficial commercial terms will be the approved by the AIOC, the same source added.
